Today, Site Selection Magazine announced that Microporous, a lithium-ion battery separator
manufacturer, has been recognized as a 2024 Top Deal in North America.
In November of 2024, Microporous announced plans to invest $1.35 billion to establish a new
facility in Pittsylvania County and create 2,015 new jobs. The company will develop on Lot 1 of
the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill.
Top projects are determined by a points system driven by corporate facility investment and
affiliated job creation as tracked by Site Selection’s Conway Projects Database.
“We are honored that Microporous has been recognized by Site Selection Magazine as a 2024 Top
Deal in North America,” said Corrie Bobe, Director, Danville Office of Economic Development &
Tourism. “This achievement marks a transformative milestone for our region, with a $1.35 billion
investment and over 2,000 new jobs, making it the largest economic development project in
Southern Virginia’s history. This project demonstrates the strength of our region’s manufacturing
sector and sets the stage for continued economic growth. Microporous’s success is a signal to the
world that Southern Virginia is open for business and ready to support both large and small
supporting industries.”
“Microporous’s decision to invest in the Southern Virginia Megasite as the anchor tenant follows
many months of due diligence and will create impacts far beyond direct capital investment and
job creation, already generating new opportunities for businesses and additional jobs across the
region,” said Linda Green, Southern Virginia Regional Alliance Executive Director. “To ensure
meaningful community and employee benefits, Microporous has committed to a comprehensive
community benefits plan that aligns their growth with Southern Virginia’s long-term economic
prosperity. They are actively addressing and investing in regional innovation for childcare, hosting
procurement fairs to connect local businesses with their development and construction teams
and strengthening the sector by linking to suppliers and customers throughout the region. This
partnership not only attracts promising new businesses to Southern Virginia but also reinforces
our shared vision for sustained regional success.”
Mat Rowe, Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director, said, “Pittsylvania County is
proud to be the future home of the Microporous battery separator manufacturing campus. This
project is not only important to the County and the Southern Virginia region due to its direct
benefits of substantial job creation and investment, but also to our Nation as we strengthen our
domestic supply of key battery materials and components. The company will take advantage of
our robust advanced manufacturing focused workforce development pipeline while also giving
back via its generous and impactful community benefits plan. I am confident that this project and
its future employees will have a transformational impact on our economy, and it’s important to
note that with the project locating on only 212-acres of the Southern Virginia Megasite, there’s
over 3,300 development ready acres available for future Site Selector Magazine Top Deal
projects.”
